Kidney Health

Self-test to detect albuminuria in urine to aid in the diagnosis of chronic kidney injury.

Detailed test description

The Kidney Health Test is a rapid test for the qualitative detection of albumin in human urine. During the test, a urine sample travels upward by capillary action. A positive urine sample does not produce a colored line in the area of the test line, while a negative urine sample produces a line in the area of the test line.

Microalbuminuria (MAU) is a term used to describe a moderate increase in urinary albumin levels. It is also referred to as urinary microalbuminuria (UMA or mALB). Albumin is a normal protein in the blood, but can be detected in very small amounts in the urine under physiological conditions. MAU occurs when the kidney releases small amounts of albumin into the urine, meaning that increased albumin excretion is an early indicator of glomerular disease. Research shows that MAU can be caused by diabetic nephropathy, hypertension and heart failure.
